Problems With TD Bank

TD Bank said Thursday morning that it was still experiencing problems with its computer system, which is not allowing customers to access account information.

“Unfortunately, we experienced an unusual delay in our overnight batch posting again last evening,” TD said. “We are working nonstop to resolve this issue. We are sorry about the inconvenience and we thank our customers for their patience and understanding.”

The bank said customers can see account balances as of Wednesday evening and that it expects to complete transaction processing and have current account balances later today. The bank said it will reverse fees, charges or interest incurred as a result of this disruption.

“We are working to solve the problem as soon as we can,” TD said. “We have empowered our employees to work with customers individually to resolve any outstanding issues that arose as a result of this delay. We continue to operate on full tilt to get this resolved.”

The problems came as Toronto-based TD attempted to integrate its systems this past weekend with that of Cherry Hill, N.J.-based Commerce Bank, which it acquired last year. A TD spokeswoman said she was not sure if the systems integration was the root of the problem and that customers were told they would not be able to access their account information over the weekend. But she said the system crashed Monday and then again Tuesday overnight. The system apparently came back on line Wednesday before shutting down again.

To repair the problem, TD said it had to shut down Internet banking to all customers for periods of each day but hoped to have that restored by early evening Wednesday.

A TD spokeswoman said despite claims made on Twitter and other social networking sites, customers can still use ATM machines and withdraw or deposit money but their balances will not be in real time.
